چکیده

Containment-based trees encompass various handy structures such as B+-trees, R-trees and M-trees. They are widely used to build data indexes, range-queryable overlays, publish/subscribe systems both in centralized and distributed contexts. In addition to their versatility, their balanced shape ensures an overall satisfactory performance. Recently, it has been shown that their distributed implementations can be faultresilient. However, this robustness is achieved at the cost of unbalancing the structure. While the structure remains correct in terms of searchability, its performance can be significantly decreased. In this paper, we propose a distributed self-stabilizing algorithm to balance containment-based trees.

Time-Efficient Self-Stabilizing Algorithms through Hierarchical Structures

We present a method of combining a self-stabilizing algorithm with a hierarchical structure to construct a self-stabilizing algorithm with improved stabilization time complexity and fault-containment features. As a case study, a self-stabilizing spanning-tree algorithm is presented which in favorable settings has logarithmic stabilization time complexity.

Analyzing the Fault-Containment Time of Self-Stabilizing Algorithms - A Case Study for Graph Coloring

The paper presents techniques to derive upper bounds for the mean time to recover from a single fault for self-stabilizing algorithms in the message passing model. For a new ∆ + 1-coloring algorithm we analytically derive a bound for the mean time to recover and show that the variance is bounded by a small constant independent of the network’s size. For the class of bounded-independence graphs ...

Scalable fault-containing self-stabilization in dynamic networks

Self-stabilizing distributed systems provide a high degree of non-masking fault-tolerance. They recover from transient faults of any scale or nature without human intervention. In general, however, the time needed to recover from small-scale transient faults may not differ significantly from the time needed to recover from large-scale transient faults. Bounding the impact of small-scale faults ...

2-Edge-Connectivity and 2-Vertex-Connectivity with Fault Containment

Self-stabilization for non-masking fault-tolerant distributed system has received considerable research interest over the last decade. In this paper, we propose a self-stabilizing algorithm for 2-edge-connectivity and 2-vertex-connectivity of an asynchronous distributed computer network. It is based on a self-stabilizing depth-first search, and is not a composite algorithm in the sense that it ...

A Self-Stabilizing Algorithm for Maximum Matching in Trees

Constructing a maximum matching is an important problem in graph theory with applications to problems such as job assignment and task scheduling. Many eecient sequential and parallel algorithms exist for solving the problem. However, no distributed algorithms are known. In this paper, we present a distributed, self-stabilizing algorithm for nding a maximum matching in trees. Since our algorithm...
